Ruger RXM: 1,000 Rounds & 1 Year Later — The Truth
Is the RXM the ultimate “Glock-Killer”, or is it just another clone?
After carrying it daily for an entire year and putting 1,000+ rounds through it, I share my insights on why this platform has earned a permanent spot in my holster.
Reliability You Can Bet Your Life On
The biggest takeaway after a year of testing is pure reliability. The RXM handled everything from budget steel-case practice rounds to premium defensive ammunition without a single failure to feed, cycle, or eject. Even the Magpul GL9 magazines, which some users have critiqued, performed flawlessly during the 1,000-round torture test.
Better Ergonomics: Solving the Dreaded "Glock Knuckle"
One of the primary reasons to choose the RXM over a standard Glock 19 is the refined frame.
Extended Beaver Tail: Allows for a high, confident purchase without slide bite.
Improved Grip Angle: Moves away from the traditional Glock angle for a more natural point of aim.
Integrated Magwell: Helps funnel the hand upward for a tighter grip while aiding in fast reloads.
Modular Optic System: Ruger introduced a modular optic mounting system that lets you mount RMSc, SRO, RMR, and other red dots directly to the slide. I use the Holosun 407k on mine.
I also recently started using the Gowutar EP-10. An awesome, budget-friendly enclosed dot that has been very reliable through my first 500 rounds.
1913 Picatinny Rail: The ability to mount tons of different lasers and flashlights frees your hand up in a self defense situation. I use the Streamlight TLR-7X on mine.
The Trigger: A Rolling Break
The trigger isn't "match-grade," but it is predictable. Over time, the rolling break has smoothed out, becoming familiar and comfortable. While it’s heavier than some high-end competition triggers, it provides the "duty-ready" confidence needed for a carry gun.
A Modular Future
The RXM isn't just a single gun; it's an ecosystem. With Ruger and Magpul releasing full-size frames (G17 style) and potentially subcompact options in the future, your investment in the RXM platform grows as your needs change. You can swap slides and frames to go from a concealed carry setup to a full-size range toy.
Daily Carry Setup
To get the most out of the RXM, I recommend the following for EDC:
Holster: TXC Covert (featuring a helix wedge for better concealment).
Non-affiliated link: CVRT Holster
Belt: KORE Essentials (a massive upgrade over cheap Amazon belts for weight distribution).
