Should You Buy the Springfield Hellcat Pro? | Long-Term EDC Review

The Specs: Why the "Pro" Model?

The Hellcat Pro is Springfield’s answer to the "one-gun" solution. It is just 1 inch thick but packs an incredible 15+1 capacity (extending to 17+1 with the included base plates).

  • Barrel Length: 3.7 inches.

  • Grip: Features Springfield’s Adaptive Grip Texture, which is arguably the best in the business. It’s "bitey" when you grip it hard but smooth enough that it won't cheese-grate your skin during a long day of carrying.

    • Plus - if you’re someone with larger hands like me, you can still get a full grip on the pistol. This makes it more controllable when shooting and easier to draw from concealment.

  • Sights: Comes standard with excellent Tritium night sights and a U-notch rear, making it optics-ready but perfectly usable right out of the box.

The Pro-Level Upgrades (And One Regret)

If you are looking to pick up a Hellcat Pro today, here are three things you need to know about the build:

1. Get the "Comp" Version

Springfield now offers the Hellcat Pro Comp, which features a ported barrel and slide. While I personally opted for the standard model, I admit that I should have spent the extra $50 and just got the comped version. It significantly reduces muzzle flip, making an already good shooting experience even better.

  • However, if you’re familiar with ports/comp’s on pistols, it does make the pistol much louder when shooting. Especially indoors.

  • Also, depending on the port, if the manufacturer doesn’t stop the rifling before the port there is a possibility of shrapnel flying out and damaging you in a close quarters defense situation.

    • This isn’t a concern with the Hellcat Pro since the rifling stops before the port.

2. Fix the "Clunky" Trigger

The biggest downside to the Hellcat Pro is the factory trigger. It’s an incredibly heavy 7 lbs, it can feel a bit sluggish.

  • The Solution: I personally recommend the M Carbo Sear and Safety Spring Kit. This simple upgrade can drop your pull weight to a much more manageable 5.5 lbs without sacrificing safety.

3. Optic Mounting

The Hellcat Pro uses the RMSc footprint. To mount a Holosun 507K (which we highly recommend), you’ll either need an adapter plate or to slightly mill down the lugs on the slide for a direct mount. This allows for a lower 1/3 co-witness with those great factory iron sights.

Real-World Concealment

Carrying a gun in the heat of a Georgia summer is the ultimate test. At 6'1" and 185 lbs, our reviewer found the Hellcat Pro to be his "summer primary."

  • Holster Setup: I personally use an Eclipse Holster paired with a concealment claw and a foam wedge. While I don’t think the Eclipse Holster is anything to brag about, it does the job and works well enough.

    • If you’d like a different option, you can use this link to save 10% off Havok Holsters.

  • Pro Tip: If you experience "hot spots" while carrying appendix, a $15 Holster Wedge Kit from Amazon is a game-changer. It pushes the muzzle away from your body and the grip into your gut, making the gun virtually disappear under a t-shirt.

Range Performance: Is it "Snappy"?

You’ll see plenty of internet comments claiming slimline 9mm pistols are "unusable" or "too snappy." After 750 rounds, I would disagree. With proper fundamentals and a strong support-hand grip, the Hellcat Pro is very manageable. Plus, it’s reliable and accurate. In my own testing, it hasn't had a single malfunction.

  • Update in 2026 - I still have yet to experience a malfunction with the Hellcat Pro and it’s been closer to 1,500 rounds.

Final Verdict: Is it Worth It?

The Springfield Hellcat Pro remains one of the best values on the market. It’s affordable, reliable, and offers a feature set that rivals pistols twice its price.

Pros:

  • Massive capacity in a slim frame.

  • Exceptional adaptive grip texture.

  • Great factory night sights.

  • Highly reliable.

Cons:

  • Heavy factory trigger (7 lbs).

  • Standard model is "snappier" than the new Comp version.
